Community Counts’ Board and Staff are excited to welcome Karla Distel, as the new Executive Director for the organization. Karla grew up on a family farm in the San Luis Valley and moved to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College, where she received her degree in accounting and business administration.
After working for the La Plata County government for more than 25 years, including six years as Director of Finance, she moved to Grand Junction to be closer to family. She worked for several years for the Grand Junction Housing Authority and in 2015, she established Distel Consulting, LLC. Since then, she has worked for a number of small municipalities and not-for-profit organizations with an emphasis on grant development and project management.
“I am thrilled to join Community Counts Colorado and be part of an organization that is dedicated to offering residents opportunities for open and respectful dialogue about any questions, concerns or issues relating to the energy and extraction industries here in Western Colorado. If we all work together to be good neighbors, everyone wins. I look forward to meeting with our partners and communities to see how Community Counts can continue to provide our neighbors and friends with valuable and up-to-date information.”
Karla, officially takes the helm as Executive Director today, February 15th but there will need to be a few days of transition time with e-mail. The Community Counts’ phone has been ported to her phone and is up and running at 970.712.7317. Until the transition has been completed with the e-mail, Nita will continue to help send out information. You should be able to reach Karla beginning on February 16th by email at karla@comunitycountscolorado.com.
