Karla Distel is the Executive Director for the organization. Karla grew up on a family farm in the San Luis Valley and moved to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College, where she received her degree in accounting and business administration.
After working for the La Plata County government for more than 25 years, including six years as Director of Finance, she moved to Grand Junction to be closer to family. She worked for several years for the Grand Junction Housing Authority and in 2015, she established Distel Consulting, LLC. Since then, she has worked for a number of small municipalities and not-for-profit organizations with an emphasis on grant development and project management.
“I am thrilled to be part of Community Counts Colorado, an organization that is dedicated to offering residents opportunities for open and respectful dialogue about any questions, concerns or issues relating to the energy and extraction industries here in Western Colorado. If we all work together to be good neighbors, everyone wins. I welcome opportunities to meet with our partners and communities to see how Community Counts can continue to provide our neighbors and friends with valuable and up-to-date information.”
